1952 - 1960

I spent four summers in Mexico from ’52 to ’55 and lived in Saint Louis the rest of the year. This is the period when people told me, “after you’re dead, you’re going to be famous.” I liked doing rooms and people during this period, always people I knew—friends who I asked to sit for me. I had quite a few commissions for portraits at this time also.
