2001-2010

Dance, dancers, dancing. I’d been participating in folk dance for 30 years already and was inspired by all different styles, from tango to ballet to contra. I always enjoyed music performances, and I played cello in a small orchestra. Dance and music aren’t just part of my work, they’re part of my life.

I began sculpting small things, like sketches in clay, some of which I later made very large. I also had my “fat lady period,” when I got interested in the voluminousness. They were strangers: a nurse who attended my sister in the hospital, women I saw in a Turkish bath. Each sculpture is a different experience.
